When I’m asking was 2022 a good year, I don’t mean in terms of geopolitics, the environment, and all those tricky things. I’m trying to think about myself and ask, was 2022 a good year for me? I don’t know if that sounds selfish, but won’t apologise for it – one of my resolutions this year is to apologise less.
So, I suppose this post is more personal than usual, not related to running or reading, or watching something, but instead about me trying to decide which camp I land on, so let’s see if I can answer the question of was 2022 a good year?
Books
I read 140 boooks in 2022 – there’s 139 on my Storygraph account, one of the books I read was published in a small print run – so if you were to ask was 2022 a good year for my reading, then I’d say that’s a pretty undeniable yes! I don’t know how much I’ll read in 2023, but I’ll constantly have the company of a good book, no matter how lonely I may think I am.
Travel
I was lucky enough to travel abroad twice this year, once to Portugal, and once to Greece, where I went to two islands. Being able to travel is such a passion of mine, and I hope I can travel more this year, once I get myself settled into things and what I suppose is meant to be adult life. Was 2022 a good year for travel? It certainly was.

Running
2022 was probably the first year I’ve had where I didn’t develop any running injuries. On top of that, I was able to run multiple half-marathons – none of them official, but I’ll do an official one if people bug me enough. It’s been so useful for my mental health, and I hope to do more running this year. 2022 was definitely a good year for running, what with zero injuries and all.
Film
I went to the cinema 12 times in 2022 – I’ll write more about this in another post – and have seen too many films in other ways to count them, but I should probably start doing that. Film has always been really important to me – it was that or trying to talk to people in primary school and not get hit or laughed at, so going to the cinema once a month has been a big highlight of this year. And in general, was 2022 a good year for film? No, it was a great year for film.

Writing
I had 11 stories accepted/published, and 1 essay published in 2022. I also wrote 4 issues of a comic book. Since I set my goal of having 3 acceptances last year, I think I managed to smash that goal, and was fortunate enough to have my work read by people that thought it was good enough to publish. These acceptances have helped me so much during my low periods in 2022, and I hope that this year, I can be in a better place before/if I get acceptances. Was 2022 a good year for my writing? It certainly was.
Personal
A lot of personal events and circumstances chagned for me in 2022. I’m not going to get into any of them here, because I don’t want to share family things quite yet, but they’ve all worked out for the better, and fate is just dealing me the hand that’s set out for me. I’m less stressed too, which is something I’m not used to saying. I hope that things continue to heal and rebuild in 2023.
Verdict
2022 was a complicated year, but I’ve been so lucky and can’t take that for granted or ignore it. I feel less depressed than when I was studying, and graduated with a 1st, so there’s that. But overall, was 2022 a good year? I think so. I hope so.
I also hope that things go well for you in 2023, and that you’re able to do all the things you hope to do! Was 2022 a good year for you?
Until next time,
Conrad 🙂
