Now, I’m pretty sure everyone has dealt with stress, and regularly does. It may as well be its own character, preferably in an epic fantasy series as a villain, Stress the Life-Butcher, something like that. Aside from all the other reasons for stress, I’ve read how dyspraxia can affect me emotionally, including stress and it’s made me stop and go, ‘Ohhhh, that makes sense’. But luckily, over the years, I’ve found a few things to help when dealing with stress.
Breathing Techniques
One of my go-to methods for dealing with stress is to start a breathing exercise. I use them all the time, whether I’m getting stressed when writing, working, travelling, in public, and many other places (not the toilet, I don’t do it on the toilet). It’s a fairly typicla method of dealing with stress, but it can help a lot. Here’s a series of breathing exercises that can help deal with stress.
Stress Less Cards
These are an amazing invention that I was once given as a present, and I can’t thank the person who gave them to me enough. I’ve been using the several times within the last few weeks while hunting for work, and it’s been helping me deal with stress a lot. Some of the cards have little activities or things for you to do, while others will hold useful affirmations and give you food for thought. Here’s a link to a Google search with several types of these cards, but they can all be really usefol for dealing with stress.
Yoga
I’m not great at meditating because sitting still for too long doesn’t help my hyperactivity, but I’ve found yoga is really good at helping me deal with stress, both in the moment, and to help prevent it. Obviously, nobody is stress-free, but the movements in yoga can help you focus on you and your body, and dissipate stress. Here’s an internet search with several videos of yoga sequences that can help deal with stress.
Running
I’ve previously mentioned how running can help me deal with dress, but it’s worth mentioning again. It can help me destress from my early morning worries, but also keep me at a more relaxed level for the day, although there can be complications for my day (and there usually are). That being said, it manages to help me deal with stress that may come later in the day and not keep my head as occupied and busy.
Planning
Whenever I’m stressed about having to do lots of things, I make myself a little plan. It might not mean getting everything done on the day, but it has helped me a lot when dealing with stress, and is something I’ve only learned to do in recent months.
I’m always interested in finding new ways of dealing with stress, and there are obviously more ways than the few I’ve listed. One of the most useful things for me to think about whenever I’m dealing with stress is a message on one of my stress less cards: Having a bad day is a universal experience – ie, I’m not alone in having felt this way. Knowing this has often helped me when dealing with stress.
Do you have any other ways of dealing with stress? I’d love to hear some!
See you soon,
Conrad 🙂
